The University of Alabama System, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, is receiving applications for the position of System Counsel. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the System Counsel is responsible for providing legal support to the General Counsel and the University of Alabama System.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of relevant legal experience with a demonstrated increase in responsibility over that period
  • Demonstrated success in effectively serving a broad, diverse and demanding clientele
  • Excellent legal research, analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama
  • Experience with higher education issues preferred

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing administrative matters
  • Negotiating, drafting and reviewing transactional documents
  • Providing legal advice and counsel, particularly in the areas of tax, investments, human resources, benefits, and other business and administrative areas
  • Assisting the General Counsel as needed, including research and drafting
  • Other duties as assigned
